HENK DAWSON / 3D ARTIST

Top Flite

Martino Flynn was asked to design  Top Flite’s new packaging. Each product shot only required changes to the lighting color. Here’s how it was done.

Using patent drawings and a bit of patience. An accurate map was made of the dimple pattern. Here’s a rendering with the unaltered gradation. Then Photoshop’s curves were used to alter the gradation to match the custom dimple shape. The Top Flite ball was now ready to render.

The scene was set up to match the comp and each light was rendered as a separate Photoshop layer. The result was a very flexible file that the art director could manipulate it in Photoshop without having to render in it 3D.
